JOHN TOROUS, MD MBI

Director of Division of Digital Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

John Torous, MD MBI is director of the digital psychiatry division, in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliated teaching hospital, where he also serves as a staff psychiatrist and assistant professor. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer sciences and received an undergraduate degree in the field from UC Berkeley before attending medical school at UC San Diego. He completed his psychiatry residency, fellowship in clinical informatics, and master's degree in biomedical informatics at Harvard. Dr. Torous is active in investigating the potential of mobile mental health technologies for psychiatry and has published over 200 peer reviewed articles and 5 books chapters on the topic. He serves as editor-in-chief for JMIR Mental Health (http://mental.jmir.org/), web editor for JAMA Psychiatry, currently leads the American Psychiatric Association’s Health IT Committee, and is a senior member in IEEE.

 
 

ALESSANDRA HENDERSON

CEO and Co-Founder, Elektra Health

Alessandra Henderson is the Co-Founder & CEO of Elektra Health, a next-gen women's healthcare platform on a mission to smash the menopause taboo. Elektra empowers the 50M women navigating menopause in the US – and the millions more abroad – with evidence-based education, care & community. Prior to Elektra, Alessandra spent 10+ years building early stage consumer businesses from the ground up at Artsy, the MIT NYC Startup Studio, and Human Ventures. She holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and MBA from Sloan MIT, where she received the Martin Trust Community Fellow Award and the Patrick McGovern Entrepreneurship Award. ELIZABETH KELLOGG

Chief Marketing Officer, Buoy Health

Since joining Buoy in 2019, Liz has developed and implemented strategy around brand positioning, demand generation, and go-to market efforts, including a full company rebrand and subsequent website relaunch. The company has seen a 2000% increase in leads under Liz’s leadership. Liz came to Buoy after 10 years at athenahealth, the nation’s largest SaaS-based health tech company, where she led marketing efforts like content, corporate strategy, and market intelligence. Prior to her time at athenahealth, Liz was the associate publisher for a healthcare publishing company. She holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Vermont.

 

Javier Evelyn

Founder and CEO, Alerje

Javier, a patient entrepreneur who personally suffers from multiple food allergies, is the Founder and CEO of Alerje, a MedTech & Digital Health startup. He's also a founding team member of MedTech Color, an organization aimed to advance the representation of persons of color in the medical device industry. He was most recently appointed to the Investment Advisory Board of the Accelerate Blue Fund which is an early-stage venture fund that exclusively invests in University of Michigan licensed startups, the board of AdvaMed Accel which is a group of industry leaders collectively working to improve the ecosystem for medical device development and innovation, as well as serving on the advisory board of one of the fastest growing food allergy advocacy organizations in the country, FAACT. In 2020 Javier & Alerje were named as an awardee of the inaugural Black Founders Fund by Google for Startups. He previously made the 2019 Crain’s Detroit Business 40 Under 40 list, served as the 2017 Google x CODE2040 Detroit EIR, and served as a Millennial Advisory Board Member at First Independence Bank. Prior to these endeavors, Javier led in the development of mobile app projects for a multi-billion-dollar health insurance company and pharmacy benefit manager. Before working in the tech industry, he was a founding team member of an independent insurance agency where he led in sales and management. RENE VILLARREAL

Lead Director for Value-Based Care, Aetna

Rene Villarreal is originally from Mexico City and came to the United States to pursue his undergraduate and graduate studies. He received a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Economics at Harvard University and an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Prior to attending MIT Sloan, Rene spent several years in Mexico City working in competitive strategy consulting across several industries. Upon graduating from MIT Sloan, Rene joined Aetna and spent eight years in their corporate finance and M&A organization. He then joined the CVS Aetna-team in charge on the integration and transformation of the merged companies. Rene is currently a Lead Director in Aetna’s Value-Based Care organization. He leads efforts to define the company’s value-based care partnership strategy as well as negotiates and executes value-based care agreements with leading healthcare organizations in primary care, kidney care and oncology, among others.
